Designing Your Life Abroad Workshop
Six years ago, I left the United States. Since then, I've secured visas and built a life from scratch in The Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and Scotland. I've navigated the bureaucracy, the culture shock, the loneliness of starting over, and the extraordinary joy of designing a life on your own terms in a place you chose, not a place you defaulted into.
This workshop is for groups of people who are seriously curious about what it takes to move abroad. Not the fantasy version. The real one.
In this 60–90 minute session:
We'll cover the practical landscape of visa pathways: what's actually available, what's realistic, and what most people get wrong.
We'll walk through honest country comparisons across Western Europe and the UK, including cost of living, healthcare, quality of life, culture, and the things nobody tells you until you're already there.
We'll talk about the logistics that trip people up like banking, taxes, shipping, pets, driving licenses, and the paperwork that feels impossible until someone shows you how.
And we'll go deeper into the emotional reality: how to build community from zero, how to handle the identity shift of leaving everything familiar behind, how to stay connected with the people you love back home, and how to know whether this is the right move for you.
This isn't about wealth, escape, or retirement. It's about intentionally designing a life that fits, wherever that life happens to be. I've done this five times and every single move taught me something I wish someone had told me before I packed.
Participants leave with a clear understanding of what's involved, a realistic sense of timeline and cost, and the confidence to take the next step, whether that's booking a scouting trip, starting a visa application, or deciding that now isn't the right time (which is a perfectly good outcome too).
Available virtually via Zoom (60–90 minutes). Perfect for community organizations, professional groups, corporate relocation programes, book clubs, and private gatherings of friends who keep talking about "what if."
