Hygge & The Science of Happiness Workshop

$0.00

Denmark has been ranked among the happiest countries on earth for over a decade. This workshop explores why and gives your group the research, the language, and the practical tools to bring that same sense of well-being into their own lives.

We start with hygge itself: not the candles-and-blankets version you've seen on Instagram, but the real thing: a deeply embedded cultural practice of simplicity, gratitude, resilience, and genuine human connection. Then we go deeper. Drawing on research from the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, Dr. Laurie Santos' groundbreaking work at Yale, and the World Happiness Report, we explore what the science actually says about what makes people happy…and what doesn't. (Spoiler: it's not social media, money, or a better job.)

Then we travel the world. Hygge isn't uniquely Danish; every culture has its own version. In this workshop, your group will explore wabi sabi from Japan (the beauty of imperfection), teranga from Senegal (radical hospitality), wu wei from China (the Taoist practice of non-action), apprivoise from France (the art of creating meaningful connection), nunchi from Korea (deep emotional intelligence), and meraki from Greece (putting your whole self into whatever you do). These aren't abstract concepts, they're daily practices that people around the world use to live with more contentment and purpose.

The second half of the workshop gets practical. We work through what I call the Hygge Tangibles: concrete, actionable ways to apply these principles across every area of your life: self-care and self-compassion, caring for others, nature and movement, entertaining and hospitality, home design and space, spirituality and routine, work environments, play and hobbies, travel, and holidays and traditions.

Your group leaves with a personal "Hygge Bank Account": a framework for building well-being deposits into their daily lives through sleep, nutrition, movement, meditation, gratitude, connection, and the quiet power of saying no.

This workshop has been delivered to teams at Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, as well as libraries, community organizations, church groups, corporate retreats, and private gatherings. It works because it's grounded in real research, spans cultures, and gives people things they can actually do… not just ideas to think about.

Led by Jody Eddy, James Beard-nominated and IACP award winning author of The Hygge Life and nine cookbooks exploring food, culture, and well-being across four continents.

Available virtually via Zoom (60–90 minutes) or in-person by arrangement (and location). Perfect for corporate teams, team building retreats, wellness programs, conferences, libraries, community groups, and private events.

Every workshop participant receives a 30% discount on one of the Story Feast Field Guides: a companion guides exploring the global philosophies of balanced living, with daily rituals, happiness research, and original recipes. A new Field Guide is available on the 1st of every month. April’s theme is Lagom: The Swedish Art of Enough.
