Story Feast Minneapolis dinner at the Weisman Art Museum — a five-course experiential dining event by James Beard nominated chefs Mateo and Erin Mackbee overlooking the Mississippi River

Last fall, the Mackbees joined us for our inaugural gathering at St. John's Abbey. It was a five-course feast that received a rousing standing ovation. Minnesota Monthly called the evening "a meditation on community, craft, and care." Mateo described it as "a Super Bowl moment for us."

This year, we're bringing that energy to the heart of the city into one of the most extraordinary buildings in Minnesota, overlooking the river that shaped it.

THE EVENING

On October 24th, 150 guests will gather inside the Weisman Art Museum, Frank Gehry's shimmering landmark on the banks of the Mississippi for a five-course, family-style dinner unlike anything else in the Twin Cities this year.

The meal will be prepared by chefs Mateo and Erin Mackbee, the husband-and-wife team behind Krewe and Flour & Flower Bakery in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Mateo is a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Midwest. Erin's Flour & Flower was named one of the best bakeries in America by The New York Times. They are two of the most talented and community-rooted chefs in the state, and we’re honored that they're returning to Story Feast for the second year.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Every ticket includes the full Story Feast experience:

  • A cocktail reception at 6:00 PM featuring a signature cocktail crafted by our beverage partners, with views of the Mississippi River and the Minneapolis skyline from the Weisman's gallery spaces.

  • A five-course, family-style dinner by chefs Mateo and Erin Mackbee: seasonal, hyper-local, and rooted in the traditions and ingredients of Minnesota.

  • All beverages throughout the evening: craft cocktails, cider, kombucha, and thoughtful non-alcoholic options from our Minnesota beverage partners.

  • Two days of optional tours to meet the producers and makers who contribute to the unique food culture of the Twin Cities.

  • Access to the Weisman Art Museum: a private evening inside one of America's most iconic museum buildings, designed by architect Frank Gehry.

  • A curated goody bag of Minnesota-made products from our partners: things you'll actually want to eat, drink, and use at home.

THE INNER TABLE (VIP)

For guests who want to go deeper. Inner Table ticket holders arrive early for an intimate pre-dinner champagne reception with chefs Mateo and Erin Mackbee. It’s a chance to meet the people behind the meal before the evening begins. You'll also receive a signed copy of Elysian Kitchens, the book that inspired it all, by Story Feast founder Jody Eddy

THE WEEKEND TOURS

The dinner is the centerpiece, but the weekend is bigger.

We're building optional tours over two days around the dinner that celebrate some of the makers, food producers, and beverage artisans who make the Twin Cities such a unique and special place. Tour details and registration will be announced in June.

THE CHEFS

Mateo and Erin Mackbee

Krewe | Flour & Flower Bakery | St. Joseph, Minnesota

Mateo Mackbee is a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Midwest. Born in New Orleans, he brings a deep understanding of how food and community intertwine. It’s a philosophy that shapes everything Krewe, the restaurant he and Erin opened in the small Minnesota town of St. Joseph.

Erin Mackbee is the baker behind Flour & Flower, named one of the best bakeries in America by The New York Times in 2024. Together, they've become anchors of their community, championing local producers, confronting rural inequity, and proving that a small-town restaurant can change the culture around it.

Their food honors both ancestry and the producers who shape the unique food culture of Minnesota. Their presence at our long table last year made the evening unforgettable. We are thrilled to welcome them back.

THE VENUE

The Weisman Art Museum

University of Minnesota | Minneapolis

Designed by Frank Gehry, the iconic architect behind the Guggenheim Bilbao, the Weisman Art Museum sits on the bluffs above the Mississippi River on the University of Minnesota campus . Its stainless steel facade has been a Minneapolis landmark since 1993, and its Riverview Gallery offers sweeping views of the river and the city skyline.

For one evening, this extraordinary space becomes our dining room.

Story Feast founder Jody Eddy is a University of Minnesota alumna who watched the Weisman being built as a student. This is a homecoming in every sense.

THE STORY FEAST EXPERIENCE

Story Feast is not a restaurant. It's not a pop-up. It's not a food festival.

It's a gathering rooted in place, built around a long communal table, and designed to remind you what it feels like to share a meal that matters.

We produce experiential dinners in extraordinary spaces around the world: monasteries, castles, art museums, and hidden venues with stories to tell. Each dinner is built from the ground up with a celebrated local chef, hyper-local ingredients, handmade serviceware, local makers and producers, and a deep respect for the place that hosts us.

Our inaugural gathering at St. John's Abbey in Minnesota drew 180 guests and was covered by Minnesota Monthly. Our 2026–2027 season spans Minneapolis, Scotland, Ireland, Estonia, England, Sweden, Morocco, and Prague.

Every detail of the evening is intentional. No sales gimmicks. Nothing that doesn’t feel authentic. Just extraordinary food, an extraordinary setting, and the company of people who believe meals are better when shared together.
