On the Friday before Halloween, Edinburgh’s Cookbook Shop will be transformed into Pottsfield from Over the Garden Wall.
Story Feast comes to The Cookbook Shop on 30 October 2026 for an evening of screening and a warm and cosy supper. The beloved autumn miniseries will be shown, alongside three courses served family style drawn from the world of the Unknown.
On this magical, autumnal night, Scotland’s only shop devoted entirely to cookbooks will be transformed by candlelight, jack-o'-lanterns and the aromas and flavours that make the harvest season come alive.
This is the first Story Feast in partnership with The Cookbook Shop, and the first of the Fantasy Feast evenings; gatherings built around a story that people already love, featuring the food it inspires.

THE EVENING
Tavern food is the most welcoming kind of comfort. Warm bread you tear rather than slice, butter still soft from the churn, something hot ladled out of a pot that's been going since the afternoon. It's the generous food of arriving somewhere out of the cold and it's what makes the Unknown feel so wondrous.
There will be abundant boards and jars and a cauldron filled with harvest favorites. The lights low, the candles flickering, the smell of the stew working its way into the cookbooks. Between courses there's something to make with your hands to bring us all together.

THE VENUE
The Cookbook Shop opened on Leith Walk in the spring of 2026. It’s the only bookshop in Scotland devoted entirely to cookbooks and food writing. It was crowdfunded into being and it's exactly the shop you'd dream of: enveloping rooms below street level lined floor-to-ceiling with cookbooks from around the world, plus zines and small-press oddities you won't find anywhere else. There are spices and shelves lined with pantry items for the recipe you've just discovered, along with ceramics, jewellery and tableware by Scottish makers.
Not much of it stays on the shelves, though. There's storytime for children at the back nook on Thursday afternoons. Bakers and coffee roasters pop-up on the weekends. There are cookbook clubs, bookbinding evenings, colourful pasta-making workshops, author talks, and film nights. Cooks passing through Edinburgh come in for a browse and leave several hours later. In its first year it's become the sort of place where strangers end up swapping recipes across the till. It’s a welcoming gathering spot for anyone who thinks about dinner the moment they’ve finished up lunch and plans holidays around their meals.

Getting there The nearest tram stop is McDonald Road, a few doors from the shop. Elm Row, a block away, is served by Lothian Buses 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 25 and 49.
Access The shop sits below street level and is reached by a short flight of steps. Please get in touch before booking if that presents any difficulty and we will do what we can.

About Story Feast Collective
Story Feast Collective creates immersive long-table dinners, supper clubs and workshops in extraordinary spaces like museums, kirks, castles and, on this occasion, a bookshop on Leith Walk.
Founded by James Beard-nominated cookbook author Jody Eddy, each gathering is built around a place, a story, and the producers who make the food of that place worth eating.
